Jeremy Goldstein: Promoting The Practice Of Law For Almost Twenty Years

Individuals in search of a lawyer for issues that range from child custody to criminal matters now have access to a new online portal 24 hours a day that will make legal assistance available to them.

The New York State Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) has collaborated with Legio.io to develop the portal, which is available at https://nysbalris.legal.io. Additionally, information can be found at 1-800-342-3661.

According to the LRIS, which has been matching individuals with attorneys for 35 years, the new service is an approachable way to get legal help.

A person begins the process at the portal by filling out a confidential questionnaire as regards their legal issues and location. The State Bar staff will evaluate the information and then forward the request to one of the 17 county bar associations with a locally run attorney service in their neighborhood or one nearby.

While there are no fees for the referral, if the individual speaks with an attorney recommended through the service, there is a $35 fee for the first half-hour consultation. There are some exceptions such as personal injury, medical malpractice, worker’s compensation and others.

While individuals are not compelled to continue with the lawyer, should they decide to do so additional fees will be settled on by both the client and the attorney.

Sujit Choudhry Provides Expertise In Constitutional Law

The World’s Constitution Expert

As the world goes deeper into the 21st century, constitutional governments are becoming far more important than ever before. Countries that were once dictatorships are now creating new constitutions to base their reformed societies upon. As an expert in constitutional law, Sujit Choudhry specializes in researching and understanding constitutions. His knowledge about constitution building has allowed Choudhry to work as an advisor and his experience in this field has shaped his opinions greatly. From the constitutions of South Africa to Ukraine, Choudhry is one of the most important political experts of our time.

Constitutional Law At The University Of Berkeley

Outside of his advisory role, Choudhry is a professor of law at the Berkeley branch of the University of California. At UC Berkeley, he teaches students about the inner workings of both familiar subjects, such as the constitution of the United States, and the development of more recently built constitution. While his academic prowess is enough to give most students a strong understanding of constitutional law, the firsthand experience he received helps him exceed typical expectations as a professor. Before he taught at Berkeley, Choudhry had enjoyed an academic career across the world. He had taught at New York University and the University of Toronto. At these schools he covered everything from semi-presidentialism to constitutional courts.

Choudhry’s Projects And Goals

Beyond his work as a professor, Choudhry is an active assistant of a number of important NGOs such as the World Bank Institute and the United Nations Development Program. Through these organizations, Choudhry conducts important research projects surrounding the state of constitutional governments around the world. Currently, he is heading 3 research projects surround the security of constitutional governments and the effects of the transition to constitutional governments. Outside of his work for NGOs, Choudhry is an accomplished author. Recently, he decided to write a book about the Indian constitution and the differences between the country’s constitutions and early democracies. Every single country is different and the constitution of each country will reflect the history and culture that shaped it.

SEC WHISTLEBLOWER HONORED WITH SECOND LARGEST AWARD

The PR news wire announced that the SEC (Securities & Exchange Commission) presented its second largest award to a whistle-blower represented by the Labaton Sucharow law firm. After collecting the penalty fees, the SEC gave the brave insider over 17 million dollars for the insider’s help in the investigation and conviction of the guilty parties. The whistle-blower provided pertinent information against a financial agent or agency that proved his/their culpability. Then the SEC determined violations were committed. SEC whistleblower Attorney Jordan A. Thomas took pride in the whistle-blower’s character and integrity and anticipates many more awards to be presented by the SEC. The SEC program protects the whistle-blower’s identity, reputation, and livelihood by not releasing the case name or the whistle-blower’s name. If the whistle-blower’s information results in sanctions, he or she will receive a sizable payment from 10 percent up to 30 percent of the sanctions levied against the financial agent or institution. The Labaton Sucharow law firm’s only mission is to represent and defend whistle-blowers. This law firm houses a team of experts that investigate, analyze, and compute information received by the client to prove the credibility of the client’s information.

Thanks to the Dodd-Frank act of 2010, whistle-blowers who participate in the SEC Whistleblower Program will be effectively protected from those agents or agencies who mishandle their relationships with investors. This program, supported by SEC approved whistle-blower lawyers, guards the confidentiality of the whistle-blower’s identity, shields the whistle-blower from a vengeful employer’s unfair practices, and compensates the whistle-blower with a cash reward.

This protection program acts as a transparent safe house for the whistle-blower. The new 21 F section of the Exchange Act establishes that any harmful act by the employer that would adversely affect the status or position of the whistle-blower’s employment is deemed illegal. In other words, the employer will break the law if the employer fires, places on unpaid leave, bumps to a lower paid position, or socially ostracizes the employee. Furthermore, the employer cannot exact retribution even if the employee participates in the investigation of the violations, testifies in court, or refuses to assist the employer in perpetrating more violations.
